Nick Baltazar

Hi!  My name is Nick Baltazar, and I am a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer.  Although physical fitness has always been important to me, I decided to become a personal trainer after overcoming a personal tragedy by focusing on my physical wellbeing.  This mindset allowed me to build the positive momentum necessary to get through a challenging time in my life, and as I began to work on various aspects of my own wellness, I felt a growing motivation to share my experience with others.  I am a strong believer that physical fitness is an integral component of total wellness, and it has become my mission to help others work on their own fitness goals as a positive step towards overall health.

My approach to training is science-based and geared toward the individual. Whether your goal is increased cardiovascular endurance, or to improve a specific capacity such as stability, strength or power, it is important to me that you enjoy our sessions as much as I enjoy planning them for you. My aim is to keep our sessions informative, fresh and fun, so that staying fit becomes a lifestyle that can be maintained year round: 365/24/7.  My training method also incorporates what we know about the mind-body connection and how it affects what we can achieve in fitness.  In fact, my own current goals include expanding my physical energy and mental strength, and increasing my endurance in order to help manage the demands and stressors of daily life with confidence and mindfulness.

I grew up in the Bay Area and live in Berkeley.  When not training, I love nature and exploring the outdoors - biking, hiking, trail running, camping, open water swimming, backpacking, all of it!  I have a bachelorโ€™s degree in psychology from the University of California, Davis.  My background includes experience working as a teacher and as an Emergency Medical Technician on an ambulance, as well as in a hospital - this is where I first discovered how awesome it felt to teach and help others.  Additionally, I am an American Heart Association CPR and AED Certified Provider, and am certified by the National Council for Behavioral Health in Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).
