I got into sports in elementary school: my parents thought the best way to channel my otherwise intractable energy levels was through physical activity. The end of one sports season meant the beginning of another: Spring and Summer for baseball, Fall and Winter for basketball. I eventually gravitated the most to swimming and was faithfully devoted to it for several years.
I started running marathons and ultra-marathons in my third year of college and doing triathlons in 2013 along with aquabikes and century rides. In 2014, I completed my first Iron Man in Sacramento.
I graduated with a BS in Environmental Science in 2007 from UC Santa Cruz. Rather than a job related to my degree, I wanted to use the passion of my own health and wellness to help others get into shape. I am also the type of person who falls asleep if I am sitting for too long. I wanted a job that was fun, active and on my feet. I get energy by giving energy.
I got my first training certification in 2008 and built a successful clientele in the San Francisco Bay Area by late 2009. After 5 amazing years and accruing several more certifications, I decided to pursue a formal education for physical fitness. I needed a deeper understanding of the science on which my career was based. I went back to school for a post-baccalaureate in Biology. This was to better my understanding so as to deliver a better service to my clients. A knowledgeable trainer is a much more helpful one. The coursework for this included the Biology Series, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, Physics, Gross Human Anatomy, Microbiology and Cadaver Lab and Dissection.
When I am not in the gym (this is rare), I am reading, writing, discovering new music and movies, practicing French or in the kitchen preparing something delicious.
